This morning a WSJ article reminded me that German nationalists often undertake family oriented Volksmarches, now I know why. “Turns out at a very young age (three-five) their Kinders (children) engage in 3-4 day camping trips away from mom and dad; hence the name Kindergarten. The outing encouraged children playing freely in nature, caring for farm animals and learning from everyday experiences.”[1] What an inspiring bit of information. God must love having those little ones Romp and Fraternize with Creation, His vibrant playground being used to embolden Life-Lessons, and Love-of-Nature.
The article mentions “Helicopter Parenting;” which could encourage Crybabies or Brattish behavior. Some kids cling to parents rather than Explore Outdoors, Recreational Sports or Formation of Friends with healthy habits. Jesus made it a point to encourage the youth to absorb life. Does your place of worship inspire outings at such a young age? Are you able to let go of your child and trust a teacher or youth adviser; would it matter if you had been steered into independence as toddlers? Trust the Holy Spirit has reason to bring this German tradition to Light.
“In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near. ”
The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the LORD ’s coming! Clear the road for him!’”
John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food he ate locusts and wild honey. People from Jerusalem and from all of Judea and all over the Jordan Valley went out to see and hear John.” (Matthew 3:1-5 NLT)
God had reason for raising John the Baptist in the woods, do you think him a crybaby? Although waddling clothes of Camel-Hair and a Breakfast-of-Locusts and Honey might seem extreme by today’s standards; just imagine Jesus watching Fruit-Loops and leftover Pizza being served instead. It’s true, Sugary-Cereal and Cheesy-Combinations could easily fill their little bellies; maybe the Calorie-Count will make the Homebodies better Internet-Surfers.
