A lesson on Pride vs Humility

Let me rehash a lesson on Pride with you. It began when I put on short pants to attend morning Mass, cutoffs for church being first for me. EWTN radio entertained my short trip to a House of Worship. Two words from the morning broadcast struck me, Pride vs Humility, which I quickly shrugged off as; not applicable. Yea right! No sooner did I pull into the parking lot did today’s message begin.

Already tardy, I took a couple steps towards the entrance and noticed; low battery sign on my cell. And Quickly u-turned to the car to juice the Weary Droid; foolishly shutting the door with my keys inside. Thoughts flashed: attend Mass or head home to get spare keys? Remembering a morning appointment I scurried home on foot.

About 2 blocks away I pondered, why not just attend service and simply ask someone for a ride home. Surely somebody would have given their Sheepish neighbor a hand; or was I too Proud to ask a favor?

Still Stubbornly searching for Reason, I began to think; the Spirit inside just wanted to enjoy a brisk 1.5 mi. walk and ensuing bike ride to prepare for today’s prayer, that’s it! But was that why Communion was taken of my mornings schedule?

“Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks.

The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready.” (Luke 12: 35-38 NLT)

Are you Preparing for Christ’s return? Today’s lesson can happen to anyone, but those who attend services regularly can find the moral of today’s story awe-inspiring. Maybe it’s time for Purging of pride, Profound humility, and Respectful church attire to make a come-back. Can you relate to this story?
