Experience the Richness of Fasting for Christ
The past week we’ve gratified a bit on fasting, its power, and vigor. Over the weekend while on retreat the Spirit brought the ancient art of cleansing to mind. Imagine how Jesus survived His forty day fast, still a man but saturated in Spirit; He was enshrined with flavor and energy from heaven. Let’s key into a few lines from your book, The Robe.
“Benyosef filled a supper-plate, and offered it to Jesus.’ Said Justus, sitting at the edge of his cot. ‘There was a piece of broiled fish, a small loaf, and some honey in the comb. And Jesus took it—and ate. ‘Not just Spirit then, commented Marcellus.’”[1]
Notice today’s message about Jesus’ state of being after trekking the desert, fasting, and just Spirit? His daily habits thereafter had changed; He began to minister and be nourished through scripture; though not just a Spirit, but as practically as possible. We too can purify and deepen in the Spirit of God by cutting back our calorie intake and promoting scripture.
“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the Truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.
Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything. Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive from Him whatever we ask because we obey Him and do things that please him.” (1 John 3:18-22 NLT)
Today’s devotional is dedicated to a young lady whom I met on the way to 24hr Fitness last night. She was a new believer fundraising for her neighborhood church. When asked why continue developing, His Truth in Living Words the vigor and vitality of Spirit spoke in bold confidence, because Jesus called us to do so!
