What’s your GPA Today?
What would you answer St. Peter if he asked, “What were your God Pleasing Actions (GPA) on Earth?” By all rights the Gatekeeper has a reputation to keep. His job is to scrutinize those fortunate souls being Spirited towards Paradise. The examinations have always been thorough, open book and impartial. Fortunately, God has the final say and a two-thirds vote can sway Peter-the-Rock to open the Door-to-Heaven.
First the Saint reviews detailed information about ones life; their trials weigh heavy towards the outcome; members of divinity are expected to score high in this respect. Charitable actions are tallied along with in-depth history of His Living Words; how deep were their sorrowful prayers and how extensive was their Forgiving-Grace.
Next comes the Book-of-Revelation exposing the darkest days; when the soul was overcome with Sin and Sorrow. Did the Soul repent? Was our Lord’s name mentioned in vain or in Support-of-Salvation. Here their True-Living-Colors are apt to make or break St. Peter’s decision. Not to worry quite yet, you see, God has a soft spot for private disclosures since He is the only one who really knows what really happened.
Since all Saints are fair minded there is hope for all souls. At this stage independent ministers of God’s word can score Sentimental-Chivalry. Consider how valuable Wisdom is to the Salvation-of-Souls, being a Believer is a must; but forgiveness is the key to our Lord’s vote of confidence; glory is given when; glory is given when Hallowed be thy Name.
All wisdom is fear of the Lord; and in all wisdom, the observance of the Law. The knowledge of wickedness is not wisdom, nor is there prudence in the counsel of sinners.
There is a shrewdness that is detestable, while the fool may be free from sin. Better are the God-fearing who have little understanding than those of great intelligence who violate the Law.
There is a shrewdness keen but dishonest, and there are those who are duplicitous to win a judgment. There is the villain bowed in grief, but full of deceit within. He hides his face and pretends not to hear, but when not observed, he will take advantage of you: Even if his lack of strength keeps him from sinning, when he finds the right time he will do harm.
People are known by their appearance; the sensible are recognized as such when first met. One’s attire, hearty laughter, and gait proclaim him for what he is. (Ben Sira 19:20-30 NABRE)
We all will arrive at the foot of the Throne, Joyful are the God-Fearing who can look humbly upon the Gate Keeper. Those welcomed into eternity have lived their Hell on Earth and will receive their Storehouse-of-Treasure in Heaven. God knows and welcomes our appearance for His hand sculptured each identifying feature, His imagination become our Spiritual-Journey and His Love our Saving-Grace; be glad and rejoice in it!
